The first Earth Hour took place in Sydney, Australia on 31 March 2007 between 7.30pm - 8.30pm
More than 2 million Sydney residents switched off their lights and appliances to raise awareness of the need for action on climate change.

Looking down on Christchurch, there is little noticeable change in lighting levels during the hour. In fact, power consumption was 12% lower than normal.
